Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant is responsible for various accounting duties. This role involves reconciling general ledger accounts as part of the monthly closing process, reconciling the bank daily, posting daily receipts, and creating journal entries. It includes other accounting duties as well. The ideal candidate should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively while effectively prioritizing a diverse workload.
General Accounting
- Maintain vendor records and perform annual 1099 reporting
- Monitor bank accounts and reconcile
- Verify daily receipt and post in the system
- Create journal entries to be approved by the controller
- Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly and ensure all transactions are accurate and update supporting schedules as needed
- Ability to create and run financial reports from the accounting system
- For assigned general ledger accounts, prepare auditor-requested reconciliations and provide supporting documents for year-end financial statement audit
- Participate in special projects and initiatives and provide general support as needed
- Assist in the annual budget process.
- Prepare reports and support for monthly budget meetings.
- Assist with the various annual audits.
- Scan and e-file bank statements, contracts, etc.
About our ideal candidate
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from an accredited university,
- 2+ years of experience working in finance or accounting.
- Strong accounting background with demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills
- Demonstrated working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), non-profit/fund accounting, college or university accounting
- Experience with software accounting packages.
- Advanced MS Office skills, particularly in Excel and Word
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills to support effective interaction with various levels of faculty, staff, students, and other constituents
